Discover the wide range of postgraduate scholarships designed to support international students.

The University of Western California (UWC) offers a variety of scholarships to postgraduate students joining us from overseas. These opportunities are provided in the form of tuition fee reductions as well as through collaboration with external funding bodies, ensuring multiple options are available to our students.

Eligibility

To be considered for one of the scholarships listed below, applicants must meet specific criteria. Scholarships will only be awarded to candidates who successfully fulfill all conditions and submit an outstanding application supported by the required documentation.

As these are competitive scholarships with limited availability, applicants will be notified of the progress and outcome of their application as soon as possible.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must:

  • Hold an offer of study at UWC and have formally accepted their place before applying for scholarship funding.

  • Not have previously completed a postgraduate taught degree at UWC (unless applying for PhD scholarship funding).

  • Demonstrate sufficient financial resources to cover remaining living expenses, travel, and any additional costs related to studying at the University.

The International Achievement Scholarship is a financial award designed to support ambitious international students who wish to study at UWC. Successful candidates will automatically receive a $3,500 tuition fee reduction in their first year of postgraduate study.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be self-funded.
  • Hold and accept a full-time postgraduate taught offer.
  • Not receive funding from external sources (e.g., government or employer sponsorship).
  • Be studying full-time at UWC.
  • Award: A $4,000 tuition-fee discount for eligible full-time postgraduate taught students, applied to the first year of study.

  • How it’s given: Automatic — no separate application required. If you meet the criteria, UWC will confirm the scholarship in your offer documentation.

  • Eligible regions & countries:

    • England: Manchester

    • Europe: Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain

    • Middle East: Bahrain, Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, UAE, Yemen

    • North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia

    • South Asia: Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

    • Sub-Saharan Africa: Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Zimbabwe

    • South East Asia: Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam

    • Other international countries: Eligible students enrolling in September and January intakes may be considered for the UWC International Postgraduate Achievement Scholarship.

  • Essential eligibility:

    • Be self-funded

    • Hold and accept a full-time postgraduate taught offer

    • No external sponsorship (e.g., government or employer funding)

    • Study full-time at UWC

  • Combination rules: Cannot be combined with other UWC scholarships/discounts; if eligible for multiple awards, the highest-value scholarship will be granted.

  • Duration limits: Award is for the first academic year only; not applicable to placement years or resits.

The Early Bird Tuition Fee Discount is a $500 reduction offered to all self-funded international students who pay their tuition deposit by the required deadlines. The discount is automatically deducted from the first year of tuition fees.

Who is eligible? All self-funded international students.

How to qualify? Pay the required tuition deposit before the deadline.

Deadline example: For January 2026 postgraduate intake, the payment deadline is 16 November 2025.

Eligible students holding offers for LLM International Business Corporate and Finance Law and LLM Law programmes can receive an Early Bird Discount of $1,500 from their tuition fees (instead of the standard $500). To qualify, students must pay their $5,000 deposit by 16 November 2025.

  • Discount amount: $1,500 (for LLM specified programmes)

  • Standard Early Bird Discount: $500 (for all other courses)

  • Condition: Deposit must be paid in full by 16 November 2025

  • Combination: This discount can be combined with other scholarships such as the Regional Scholarship

  • Example:

    • Early Bird Discount = $1,500

    • Regional Scholarship = $4,000

    • Total Discount = $5,500

    • If tuition fees = $17,750 → after discount student pays $12,250

The GREAT Scholarships are externally funded awards that provide financial support for international students. Applications for 2025 are now closed, and the next round of applications will open for students starting in September 2026.

The UWC Global Leadership Scholarships are prestigious awards offered directly by the University of Western California (UWC – USA) to support outstanding international students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential.

Recipients of these scholarships will receive:

  • Full financial support to study an eligible master’s degree

  • Coverage of tuition fees, living allowance, and travel costs

  • Access to exclusive academic, cultural, and professional programs

  • Lifetime membership in the UWC global alumni community of leaders and innovators

These scholarships are designed to empower ambitious students from around the world to achieve their educational goals at UWC, and return to their home countries equipped to drive progress, innovation, and sustainable development.

UWC does not offer athletic scholarships. Instead, we provide Athletic Grants-in-Aid (GIA).

  • These are awarded directly by the coach of each particular sport.

  • If you wish to be considered for an athletic GIA, you should:

    1. Contact the coach of your sport, or

    2. Visit the Athletics Office (PE 102) for more information.

It depends on the instructions:

  • Typewritten required: Some applications specify that they must be typed — in this case, handwriting will not be accepted.

  • Handwriting allowed: If permitted, make sure to:

    • Write neatly in black ink.

    • Ensure your application can be copied clearly and legibly.

Important:

  • Applications that are messy, hard to read, or contain spelling/typo errors may go unreviewed.

  • Always have someone proofread your application before submitting.
